Bayway Refinery

Bayway RefineryWelcome to the Community Relations Web site of the Phillips 66 Bayway Refinery.

The Bayway Refinery, located on New York Harbor in Linden, N.J., processes mainly light, low-sulfur crude oil. Crude oil is supplied to the refinery by tanker, primarily from the North Sea, Canada and West Africa. Bayway refining units include one of the world’s largest fluid catalytic cracking units, two hydrodesulfurization units, a reformer, an alkylation unit and other processing equipment.

The refinery produces a high percentage of transportation fuels, such as gasoline, diesel fuel and jet fuel, as well as petrochemical feedstocks, residual fuel oil and home heating oil. The facility distributes refined products to East Coast customers via barges, trucks, pipelines and railcars. Bayway also has a 775 MMLB/Y polypropylene plant.

About

The Refinery
Standard Oil Trust began building the refinery in 1907. After nearly a year and a half of construction, the first oil was processed on January 2, 1909.  Bayway has operated continuously since that day more than a century ago.  The Bayway Refinery, located on New York Harbor in Linden, N.J., processes mainly light, low-sulfur crude oil. Community

An Integral Part of the Community
Phillips 66 prides itself on being a responsible citizen.  The Bayway refinery invests in our community through charitable contributions, community engagement, volunteerism, sponsorships, and civic leadership.  We focus our investments in three primary pillars - Education, Health & Safety, and Environment.  We also encourage and support our employees’ involvement in local non-profit organizations by offering matching gift and employee volunteer grant programs.

The Bayway Community Advisory Panel (CAP) is sponsored by four member companies operating facilities at the site: Phillips 66 Bayway refinery; Infineum chemical plant; Cogen Technologies power plant; and a DuPont chemical plant. Together they host approximately 35 citizen members from four local communities.

CAP members are typically selected because they have an interest in plant operations and related topics. Members are associated with or represent one or more of the following sectors: civic groups; education; emergency response; environment; health care; merchants/business; municipal government; neighbors or senior citizens. While most CAP members are volunteers, due to their positions within the community, certain elected and appointed officials serve as members.
