Fontainebleau Aviation, soFLY Southern Tropics, and Phillips 66 Aviation Host Girls in Aviation Day

MIAMI (Oct. 2, 2023) – Fontainebleau AviationsoFLY Southern Tropics and Phillips 66 Aviation hosted an empowering Girls in Aviation Day in Miami at Fontainebleau Aviation Saturday, September 30, 2023. More than 300 aspiring young pilots ages 8 – 17 soared through educational activities and aviation exploration, witnessed captivating live airplane and helicopter demonstrations and spoke with aviation professionals. The event was organized locally by soFLY Southern Tropics, a nonprofit chapter of Women in Aviation International (WAI) representing South Florida and the Islands, to introduce young women and girls to a career in aviation and aerospace.

During the free event, the next generation of aviation experts embarked on a journey, learning from passionate individuals about the endless possibilities in their reach in the aviation industry. Attendees interacted with aviation professionals, including mechanics, air traffic controllers, flight attendants and more. Additionally, attendees left with exciting giveaways, such as a Girls in Aviation tote bag filled with items that captured the spirit of flight and adventure. 

During the event, Sunny Lopez, Manager at Phillips 66 Aviation, advocated for continued support of educational initiatives like Girls in Aviation Day to further uplift female aviators in the field. “We are honored to sponsor Girls in Aviation Day as we are committed to enhancing opportunities for female professionals in the aviation field,” said Lopez. “The event is close to our hearts as we are helping shape the future of the aviation industry while educating bright young girls.”

Girls in Aviation Day is celebrated internationally, and this year, 150 events took place at airports, fixed-base operators (FBOs), museums and hangars, reaching 30,000 girls worldwide. Fontainebleau Aviation, a Phillips 66 FBO, provided an exemplary backdrop to the Girls in Aviation Day event in Miami, offering guests a firsthand experience at a premier FBO facility. As a gateway into Miami, Fontainebleau Aviation is enhancing its client experience with its imminent completion of a 40,000 square ft. hangar expansion project, a development that will meet the surging demand for aircraft storage. Through the dedication of partners, like Phillips 66, the FBO maintains a commitment to excellence in aviation services. Great efforts have earned the FBO team recognition for its enhanced client experience and above-and-beyond efforts. 

Alexsandra Camargo, Brand Manager at Fontainebleau Aviation, shared with guests her unique journey to a career in aviation. “Events like Girls in Aviation Day are pivotal moments in the lives of young women, inspiring them to pursue careers and passions they might not have considered otherwise,” said Camargo. “As an Advisory Board Member of soFLY Southern Tropics, I will continue to reflect on my career to inspire a new generation to become female aviators and aerospace professionals.”

Marisol Gomez, Chair of Marketing at SoFly Southern Tropics, spoke about the nonprofit’s commitment to supporting advancements in the aviation and aerospace industries in South Florida. “As part of the Girls in Aviation Day series, our group has organized three events in Doral, Ft. Lauderdale and now Miami,” said Gomez. “Through the commitment of partners, like Phillips 66 Aviation and Fontainebleau Aviation, we are proud that we can provide a free inspirational and educational day for young girls.” 

As the event concluded at Fontainebleau Aviation, young girls discovered the magic of flight and envisioned a future in aviation without bounds. They left inspired and prepared to take flight into the world of aviation.
