Students choose purpose over swag through new career fair initiative

Phillips 66 empowers university students to reduce waste and increase impact by directing charitable donations to nonprofit partners.

At university career fairs across the country, Phillips 66 has introduced a new alternative to traditional branded giveaways. Instead of receiving an item, students are choosing a trusted nonprofit partner for a company-funded charitable donation on their behalf.

Why it matters: Today’s students are drawn to employers whose values align with their own and increasingly expect purpose, transparency and environmental responsibility. This initiative directly aligns with those expectations, advancing Phillips 66’s strategy by reducing waste, strengthening community partnerships, and engaging future talent in meaningful, values-driven ways.

One California Polytechnic State University student visited the booth specifically because the nonprofit options resonated with him, sharing, “I think this initiative showcases how great Phillips 66 is!”

The addition of this initiative has been a meaningful enhancement to Phillips 66’s long-standing support for educational institutions and programs that help prepare students for professional success and foster workforce development.

During the 2025 pilot program, students helped direct thousands of dollars in donations across five nonprofits:
