Phillips 66 earns Equality 100 Award for LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion

For the third year in a row, Phillips 66 has earned a score of 100 from the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index. The index is a national benchmarking tool on corporate policies and practices related to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer employees.

Phillips 66 is among just 39% of participating companies to receive an Equality 100 Award in 2023. The award recognizes Phillips 66’s leadership in LGBTQ+ workplace inclusion and commitment to inclusive practices and policies. The company also has an active employee resource group, the Pride Network, for LGBTQ+ employees and allies.

“The Equality 100 Award is an important recognition, and what matters even more is our commitment to treating people right with practices that are fair and inclusive to every single employee,” said Brian Mandell, Executive Vice President of Marketing and Commercial and executive champion of the Pride Network.

The Human Rights Campaign significantly raised the bar on this year’s criteria, which fall under four central pillars:

  • Non-discrimination policies across business entities
  • Equitable benefits for LGBTQ+ workers and their families
  • Supporting an inclusive culture
  • Corporate social responsibility

In the last year, Phillips 66 implemented several policy enhancements that further benefit its LGBTQ+ employees and create a more equitable workplace, including:

  • Updating its FMLA policy to include coverage for domestic partners
  • Updating its community investments policy to include gender identity in the non-discrimination statement
  • Publishing an LGBTQ benefits guide that highlights the company’s unique rewards
  • Finalizing a set of gender transition guidelines for Human Resources business partners to follow
  • Enhancing data collection with the addition of an LGBTQ+ question on the annual Employee Perspectives survey
